Flight Training
become a pilot
Learn to fly at GFC!
As a DTO, we are certified by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to deliver a number of pilot training courses and flight instruction. We have several combined decades worth of flight experience. Our club is unique in that it is the only CAA registered flying club operating entirely out of Glasgow International Airport. This gives us readily available access to different types of terrain and the highly variable weather pattern gives our students a wide range of experience. Our pilots get to experience the radiowork and traffic experience of a busy airport and yet, by contract, we are only a few minutes flight away from the lesser congested airspace to the north.

Let’s have some fun first
As a club, we prioritise your overall experience over any profit. We recommend starting with a discovery flight to immerse you in the joy of flying. Our commitment is to always put your needs first, so let’s go on an unforgettable adventure in the skies.

And if you’re serious…
Our non-profit flying club offers a comprehensive range of flight training programs, including LAPL, PPL, Instrument Rating, IMC Ratings, and Night Ratings. We also provide revalidation services to ensure your skills and certifications remain up to date. Our experienced instructors are dedicated to delivering high-quality training, tailored to meet the needs of both novice and seasoned pilots. Whether you’re starting your aviation journey or looking to advance your skills, we have the courses and support to help you achieve your goals.

Light Aircraft Pilots License (LAPL)
A Light Aircraft Pilot License (LAPL) allows you to act as pilot-in-command on single-engine piston aeroplanes with a maximum take-off mass of 2000 kg or less, carrying up to three passengers. This license is perfect for those looking to enjoy the pleasures of flying without the extensive training required for a PPL. With an LAPL, you can embark on exciting adventures, sharing the joy of flight with friends and family while exploring local airspace. It offers a more accessible pathway to becoming a pilot, providing the freedom to fly recreationally and build valuable flight experience.

Private Pilots License (PPL)
A Private Pilot’s License (PPL) for aeroplanes grants you the ability to act as pilot-in-command for non-commercial operations on both aeroplanes and touring motor gliders. This license opens up a world of possibilities, allowing you to explore new destinations, take friends and family on memorable flights, and even participate in various recreational flying activities. With a PPL, you gain the freedom to fly across the UK and beyond, enhancing your skills and confidence as a pilot while enjoying the thrill of aviation on your own terms.

Instrument Ratings
The standard IMC rating in the UK allows pilots to fly in a wider range of weather conditions, enhancing safety and flexibility for your flights by allowing you to navigate through poor visibility and adverse weather conditions with confidence. This rating is ideal for those who wish to expand their flying capabilities and enjoy greater freedom.
The restricted IMC rating, on the other hand, offers a more limited scope, designed for pilots who primarily fly in less challenging weather conditions. It provides essential skills for improving flight safety and handling unexpected weather changes, making it a practical choice for those seeking to enhance their flying skills without the full commitment of the standard rating.

Night Ratings
A night rating is essential if you wish to fly during the hours between “evening civil twilight” and “morning civil twilight.” Adding this rating to your licence enables you to extend your flying hours, enhancing your skills and flexibility as a pilot. With a night rating, you can experience the unique beauty and challenges of night flying, making it an invaluable addition for those looking to expand their aviation capabilities and enjoy the freedom of flying at any time of day.

Commercial Pilots License (CPL)
We offer comprehensive training programs to assist you on your journey to obtaining a Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL). Our experienced instructors provide high-quality instruction designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required for a successful career in commercial aviation. With our support, you can confidently pursue your goal of becoming a professional pilot, knowing you are receiving top-notch training every step of the way.

Re Validations
If you need a renewal or re-validation of a rating, our experienced team is here to assist you with tailored solutions to meet your specific requirements. Whether it’s renewing your PPL, IMC rating, night rating, or any other certification, we ensure the process is smooth and efficient. Additionally, if you have more complex aviation needs or unique situations that require specialized attention, please reach out to us.
